The Beauty of Friends Who Pray
I love that my friends will pray! Just a quick text and the word “pray” is all it takes. We have walked with each other through illness and tragedy, death and divorce, and even surrogate motherhood.
We all need friends we can connect with and be real with. In this material world with heavily edited Instagram reels and advice targeting us through algorithms, we could all use a little honesty and real authenticity.
The Noise of “Insta Fakes”
Scrolling the Internet, I hear the noise. Do you hear it too? Advertisers shout nonsense to make me ashamed, just so that I will buy their products. Heavily edited videos of women make me feel like I am not skinny enough, pretty enough, or young enough. Not having very many likes or followers on my posts “proves” that I am not relevant.
Then the self-help and mental health gurus swoop in, trying to get me to purchase their newest motivational books and downloads. Who doesn’t need the mental health “experts” after hearing all this dissonance?
Because I am naturally sceptical, I want to ask them, “What are your credentials for giving me advice?” When I look at their profiles, I think,” You are probably just as confused as the rest of us!” and … “You don’t even know me!”
The Truth
But God knows me! He created me just the way I am; therefore, I must be the right size and shape. I have been gifted many years on earth and am still able to serve Him, so I must be young enough. And most importantly, I was so valuable to Him that He sent His Son, Jesus, from heaven to die for my sins. Then, through his son’s death and resurrection, God made me good enough.
Finding Real Faith-Filled Friendship
We hunger for people in our lives who will speak the truth! We want real friends–people with problems who understand life’s difficulties and will pray for us–friends who know when to sit with us quietly in our pain and know when to give advice. Search for solid people who are in God’s word, the Bible, every day, listening and immersing themselves in the only real truth. There are still some of us around, and we are looking for you, too.
I long to tell myself the truth after listening to the uproar. You should tell yourself the truth, too. Instead of heeding the turbulence in the world, immerse yourself in God’s word. Find people who aren’t phony or judgmental. Search for others who are the real deal and choose to be authentic yourself. It takes faith and vulnerability, but it’s worth it. In a world of noise and fakes, find the friends who point you to God and will pray with you!
